Rules
The topic will be announced on the spot
– The participants are required to compose a poem on the spot
– The poem could be in any language- Hindi or English but NOT both
.- Combined prizes will be awarded for Hindi and English poetry.
– No word limit. Time limit is 1 hour to write. Plagiarism is strictly prohibited
.- Poems are to be recited before the judges and time limit for recitation would be 3 minutesbe 3 minutes
– Judgement will be based on:
– Creativity and Imagination – 50
– Recitation / expression – 50

ESSAY WRITING

1. Topic for essay will be given on the spot

2. The time allotted will be strictly 1 hour including distribution of sheets.

3. Paper sheet will be provided on the spot.

4. Language will be Hindi or English, but NOT both.

5. Combined prizes will be awarded for Hindi and English essays

6. Use of mobile phones is strictly prohibited.

Essay writing will be evaluated on the basis of :

Content – 30 points

Language and Vocabulary – 35 points

Originality of ideas – 35 points

J-A-M ( Just A Minute)

Date 25 march
Time 1 to 2 pm
Venue SB senate hall

J-A-M is a fun speaking event which will put your oration and wit to test. The participants will be asked to advertise/sell an object in the most interesting way possible to grasp the attention of the judges and the audience.

1. The name of the object will be drawn out by a system of lottery.

2. The object to be advertised may/may not be provided to the participants.

3. The participants have to advertise/sell the object to the audience in 1 minute.

4. The time distribution is as follows:

1st warning bell – After 50 seconds

FINAL BELL. – After 1 minute

Disqualification – After 1 min 10 secs

5. The participants should start speaking soon after the signal is given

6. Participants should avoid any repetition, hesitation or deviation

7. The participants can speak in both English, Hindi or mixed

8. Use of obscene language and misconduct will lead to disqualification.

JUDGEMENT CRITERIA:

Content- 25 points

Creativity- 25 points

Language and vocabulary and voice modulation- 25 points

Body language and poise- 25 points

TURNCOAT

Turn Coat is a form of a debate where the speaker debates with one’s own self. The speaker starts by taking a side on the topic and switches stance after a specific duration of time.

1. The topic will be drawn by a system of lottery on the day of the event, 5 minutes before the start of the speech of each participant.

2. Five minutes will be provided to each participant for preparation.

3. The participants will speak either in Hindi or English (not mixed). Judging for both the languages will be done together.

4. Negative points will be awarded for exceeding time, use of obscene language and misconduct. This may lead to disqualification.

5. Each speaker will be given 2 minutes to speak. The order of changing sides is as follows:

1 minute – For

(Bell after 1 minute)

1 minute – Against

(Bell after 2 minutes)

(FINAL BELL after 2 minutes)

After 10 seconds ( i.e. 2 mins 10 secs) LAST BELL beyond which disqualification

Exceeding the time beyond 2 minutes will lead to deduction of points at a rate of 5 points per 10 seconds.

Language and grammar and Voice modulation – 25 points

Body language and poise- 25 points

Clarity of thought- 25 points
